Thoughts on the programme: I took an interest in the MA in Human Rights at FAU because of its interdisciplinary nature which furnishes students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the fundamental principles of human rights. It approaches human rights from a legal, political and philosophical way and the combination of lectures and seminars. Coming from a Communications background, the teaching method, as well as the multidisciplinary approaches, facilitated my understanding of this broad subject.
Cultural diversity is another key aspect that attracted me to the program and it has been an amazing journey with classmates from all over the globe. Moreover, the Professors and entire staff are very supportive, friendly and understanding.
Professional background: I hold a BSc. Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Buea 2011-2014. I have over two years of work experience with human rights organizations at the national and international level. Prior to my master’s studies, I served as Youth Volunteer with the African Union Commission in Ethiopia, intern with the National Commission of Human Rights and Freedoms in Cameroon and volunteer with a human rights NGO in Cameroon and intern with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. Currently, I volunteer for Nala Feminist Collective and am taking another Master’s in Media and Communication Science at TU Ilmenau.
