Nisreen Alkour

Syria | Batch 2020-2021

Thoughts on the programme: The M.A. Human Rights constitutes a profound, and comprehensive understanding of all the problematic issues like genocide, enforced disappearances, refugees, inequities etc. The content of the programme also touches current issues like environmental human rights. The curriculum is a good combination of both theory and practice.

Professional background: I have a certificate in pedagogy and a bachelor’s degree in English. Back in Syria, I worked as an English teacher for four years. I have also taught at a UNICEF-funded refugee school. I worked for Siemens (Global Learning Campus), where I helped organise the new learning platform Wingspan. I also worked at Adidas, in their social corporate responsibility department. My most outstanding achievement was to initiate the process to successfully expand to break barriers for women to play sport. On top of that, I worked as a recruiter and translator for “Starting Over,” a human rights project of the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg. Additionally, I volunteered with Kulturforum, a project of the city of Erlangen’s Integration Office.
