Ramón Galvis

Colombia | Batch 2020-2021

Thoughts on the programme: I chose the Human Rights Master’s at FAU because it offers the possibility to not only gain a wide and multidisciplinary theoretical background, but it also provides practical knowledge through diverse case studies. This programme offers the possibility to specialize in different areas of human rights, such as transitional justice, and gender and refugee rights, among others. Another thing that called my attention is the great diversity in the class: all of the students are experienced human rights professionals that come from different countries and backgrounds. This enriches every discussion and greatly contributes to gaining experience by learning from others. One last thing to highlight is that all of the professors have a vast experience in the field and are always keen to provide the best education possible.

Professional background: I am a graduate of Government and International Relations of the Externado University of Colombia. After graduating, I did an internship in the Colombian Embassy in Rome, which provided me with the opportunity to learn about the nexus between food security and human rights after participating in several meetings at the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. After that, I completed an internship at the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, researching the role of South-South Cooperation in fostering human rights. At present, I work as a Resource Mobilization Volunteer for a local NGO that advocates for children’s and women’s rights in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Part of my role consists in formulating projects to promote sexual and reproductive health rights, HIV prevention, access to education for children with disabilities and capacity building.
