Students reflect on the virtual trip to Geneva

During the last session of the virtual trip to Geneva, the students gathered to share their excursion impressions. They appreciated the opportunity to interact with officials from OHCHR and UNHCR, who share useful tips on starting a career within the UN system, for example, through UN Volunteers. Others stressed the importance of finding a mentor to guide their professional development, recommended by one speaker. They also appreciated the interaction with experts in their respective fields, which is inspiring for those seeking to develop a career in human rights.

Regarding the committee meetings, the students were impressed by the work that still needs to be done on gender equality in highly developed countries such as Denmark. They were positively struck by the CEDAW Committee’s emphasis on psychological violence against women, which should be considered as serious as physical assault.

Finally, the students agreed that the virtual excursion was an excellent opportunity to get a close look at the functioning of organizations working in human rights, specifically in the city of Geneva.
