The M.A. programme in Human Rights is an interdisciplinary and international postgraduate degree programme offered at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. It is directed by Professor Heiner Bielefeldt, Chair in Human Rights and Human Rights Politics and former UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief (2010–2016), Professor Markus Krajewski, Chair in Public Law and Public International Law, and Assoc. Professor Michael Krennerich, Chair for Human Rights and Human Rights Politics.
The M.A. Human Rights addresses the growing importance of human rights in all areas of society and academia. The course programme covers fundamental challenges as well as current issues. It pursues an interdisciplinary approach by taking the political, philosophical and legal dimensions of human rights into account. Graduates of the programme will be equipped with theoretical and practical skills to pursue professional activities in various human rights contexts.
Admission to the programme requires a university degree based on a course of study which consisted of 210 ECTS credits (3.5 years of full-time studies) and at least one year of professional experience either in the area of human rights or in combination with practical experience in human rights work on a volunteer basis. If your university degree is based on 180 ECTS you may be accepted on the basis of a special procedure determining additional qualifications.
The programme only starts in the winter term. The application deadline is 30 June each year. Students who require a visa are strongly encouraged to apply early, preferably by the end of February.
